When everything becomes still…
when there’s nothing to focus on, nothing to do, nothing to distract,
something unexpected can appear.
Fear.
Not always loud.
Not always dramatic.
But there.
And what’s striking is this:
It’s not always tied to anything specific.
Not a situation.
Not a person.
Not something actually happening.
It can simply be… thoughts.
Quiet, persistent, underlying thoughts
that seem to carry a sense of threat, uncertainty, or unease.
And from there, something subtle begins to happen.
Life starts to be filtered through that fear.
Opportunities feel risky.
Connection feels vulnerable.
Even simple moments can feel slightly tense.
So much of our experience becomes shaped by this:
Responding… reacting… adjusting…
trying, in small ways, not to feel afraid.
And often, it doesn’t even look like fear on the surface.
It looks like:
hesitation
overthinking
holding back
trying to stay in control
But underneath…
there can be a quiet sense of:
“i am not entirely at ease here.”
So the question becomes:
Where is this actually coming from?
If you look closely,
there’s often a sense of “me” at the center of it.
A “me” built from:
past experiences
memory
interpretation
expectation
And from that place, thoughts carry weight.
They feel personal.
They feel true.
They feel like something that needs to be managed.
But what if…
even briefly…
those thoughts didn’t need to be held onto?
Not pushed away.
Not controlled.
Just… allowed to come and go.
And what if the sense of “me” at the center of them
wasn’t held so tightly?
In those moments, something begins to shift.
The intensity softens.
The need to react eases.
And what remains isn’t fear,
but a kind of space.
A quiet awareness that is already here,
not caught in the thoughts,
not shaped by them.
From here, there’s a different sense of being.
Less guarded.
Less driven by what might happen.
And within that…
something else becomes noticeable.
Not as an idea,
but as a Presence of Awareness.
A kind of openness.
A quiet steadiness.
Something that could be called Love,
not as the opposite of fear,
but as something that was never disturbed by it. 💕
If this feels slightly familiar,
you’re not alone in noticing it and
if you’d like to experience this more directly, i have created a free, short guided reflection you can listen to here …
If you noticed even a small shift while listening, this is exactly what we explore in the full workshop “Love Beyond Belief, a 100-minute guided experience” and you can access it from dougandlinda.ca or https://douggeiger.podia.com/love-beyond-belief
